Jarte is a tabbed word processor incorporating Microsoft`s reliable, fast starting WordPad word processing engine. Jarte adds many features missing from WordPad and creates documents compatible with Word. Jarte can be run from a USB flash drive.
Pros: Jarte is built on top of the Word pad editing engine and add several features that make it easy to use. The approach is to add necessary features yet keeping it lightweight and easy to navigate through. The full blown Word is an editor that has every conceivable feature. That creates a maze of options, menus and settings one has to navigate through to find the piece of feature one needs. Quite often one gives up on the hunt and forgets what he was looking for and makes do with whatever is familiar to him.
Tabbed operation is a big improvement. One has all the documents open at the same time that one needs them. Though it’s possible with Word, that is a little cumbersome.
The user interaction panel is organized in a little unusual way. There are some buttons, mousing over which brings out the drop down menus. Once you get used to it, it feels very convenient as the actions listed under each menu are very logically grouped together. This ease of click-less operation can be turned on for all the menu items too. Favorite files are easy to find. What’s really convenient is you could find favorite folders easily too. That’s an meaningful enhancement as quite often the group of files one is working on are within a particular folder. Favorite fonts are as easy to find too.
Cons: The tool bar arrangement is very unusual. Needs a little getting used to as it is so different from what one has come to expect. Thus there’s a little learning involved. But once you are used to it, this feels very easy to use.
Overall, this well thought out program is really good and deserves a 5 star rating.
